Unit 4: Telling Time

Students learn how to say the hour (e.g. It is 5 o’clock), study numbers 21 to 60 and then tell time using both the hour and minute (e.g. It is three forty-five). Students ask and answer: What time is it? Unit 4 includes optional reading and writing assessments.

Session 1: Telling Time to the Hour

Students learn the parts of a clock and how to say the hour in English then make playing cards to practice telling the time.

Session 2: Introduce and Practice 20 to 60

Students learn the numbers from 20 to 60, practice counting and make flash cards to use in partner activities.

Session 3: Telling Time with Hours and Minutes

Students learn how to tell time with hours and minutes then practice with drills in listening, reading and writing the time.

Session 4: Review Telling Time and Read a Poem

Students review telling time, listen to a poem about the clock and identify rhyming words, fill in an Alphabet Box and practice reading the time in word and number form.

Session 5: Prepare for Assessments

Students review telling time and then prepare for listening and speaking assessments.

Session 6: Review and Assess Telling Time

Students review telling time then take a two-part listening test and a two-part speaking test.
