Unit 15 introduces nouns for articles of clothing such as hat, shirt and shoes and related verbs (button, tie, zip, put on and take off).  Beginning English learners discover how the prefix un- changes the meaning of a verb.  Students also review and expand their understanding of opposites and sequence words like first, next, then and last.  They also see how to use the words this and that, these and those. Each session has language drills found in the student workbook.

Session 1: Clothing

In Session 1, beginning students of English learn vocabulary to describe articles of clothing and related verbs (zip, tie, button, put on and take off.) They practice new vocabulary with Wordsplash and Odd Word Out and then make flash cards.

Session 2 begins with vocabulary review and then introduces this, that, these and those. Students learn how the prefix un- changes the meaning of a verb and how to use first, next, then and last to describe a sequence of events. Then they listen to a poem and a passage and practice asking questions about clothing using what.

Session 2: Doing the Opposite!

In Session 3, students review vocabulary with Picture Match, fill in a table to describe what three children are wearing, and review opposites. Students also read a poem and a passage and participate in partner activities: See It, Say It, Memory and Pictionary.

Session 3: Practice with a Partner

In Session 4, beginning English learners review vocabulary, fill in the Alphabet Box with words from Units 11 through 15, and preview CVC and CVCC words. Then students practice for the listening and speaking tests.

Session 4: Review and Prepare for Tests

Session 5: Review and Take Tests
