Unit 3: Numbers 1 to 20
This longer unit has three parts, with assessments at the end of each part. Students learn numbers 1 to 10, then numbers 11 to 20 and finally review all the numbers from 1 to 20. Students practice vocabulary by answering questions like this: How many blue triangles do you see? New routines include Count Around (a movement break) and Go Fish (a card game).
Session 1: Introduce Numbers 1 to 10
Students learn the numbers from 1 to 10, practice counting, participate in listening drills and make flash cards.
Session 2: Review and Practice 1 to 10
Students review and practice the numbers from 1 to 10 then do drills for listening, reading and writing.
Session 3: Review 1 to 10 and Read a Poem
Students review numbers 1 to 10; read a poem and identify rhyming words; fill in an Alphabet Box and practice with a partner.
Session 4: Review 1 to 10 and Prepare for Assessments
Students review the numbers 1 to 10 through whole group and partner activities then prepare for the first set of listening and speaking tests.
Session 5: Review 1 to 10 and Take Listening and Speaking Assessments
Students review numbers 1 to 10, as a group and with a partner. Then they take listening and speaking tests.
Session 6: Introduce Numbers 11 to 20
Students learn and practice the numbers 11 to 20, do drills for listening, reading and writing 11 to 20 and make additional flash cards.
Session 7: Review and Assess Numbers 11 to 20
Students review the numbers 11 - 20 with partner activities and practice tests in listening and speaking. When ready, students then take the second set of assessments: speaking and listening for numbers 11 to 20.
Session 8: Review and Assess Numbers 1 to 20
Students review and practice numbers 1 to 20 then take a listening and speaking test.
