Unit 14 introduces beginning English learners to parts of the body and the face. They practice using this new vocabulary with familiar activities: Wordsplash, Picture Match, and Odd Word Out. Students see how the spelling of a verb can change when adding -ing and they sort words into nouns and verbs. Finally, students learn about possessive adjectives: my, our, your, his, her and their. Each session has language drills in the student workbook.
Session 1: Parts of the Body
In Session 1, beginning English learners study nouns for parts of the body and face as well as verbs for different actions. They practice new nouns with Wordsplash and Odd Word Out. Then they make flash cards for both nouns and a new group of action verbs.
Students begin Session 2 by reviewing new vocabulary and then read a short poem and text with the same words. Students sort familiar and new words into nouns and verbs. They also see how the spelling of a verb can change when adding -ing (i.e. doubling the final consonant or dropping the final e).
Session 2: Moving: Turning, Clapping, Shaking!
Students begin Session 3 by reviewing vocabulary with picture match. They read and repeat the poem and text. Students then learn about possessive adjectives: my, our, your, his, her and their. The session concludes with suggested partner activities.
Session 3: Practice with a Partner
In Session 4, English learners review vocabulary and the use of possessive adjectives. They fill in the Alphabet Box with words from Units 11 through 14. The students practice for the listening and speaking tests.
Session 4: Review and Prepare for Tests
